Kueh pie tee is a beloved peranakan dish that is especially loved in the Malaysian states of Penang and Melaka, and the city-state of Singapore. All three areas are hubs of the Peranakan-Nyonya culture. Some people assert that pie tee is named after the word "patty" and could be the Peranakan equivalent of a British pastry. Others claim that kueh pie tee sprang up in Singapore during the Japanese Occupation.
